Frida depicts the professional and private lives of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, portrayed by Salma Hayek, and earned Academy Awards for best makeup and best original score. The evening will start with 2006–2008 Poet Laureate of Virginia Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, who will speak about her research for her book The Embrace, a view into the artistic worlds of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, and share some of her poems. Though the event is free, donations will be accepted gratefully to support the ongoing operations and preservation of the Byrd Theatre.
